At StudyGenie, we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our AI-powered study tools. We've designed StudyGenie to be privacy-first — your data stays on your device.

Short answer: Almost nothing. StudyGenie is designed to minimize data collection.

• ✓ No account required — You don't need to sign up or provide any personal information to use StudyGenie.
• ✓ No personal data collected — We do not collect your name, email, phone number, or any personally identifiable information.
• ✓ No cookies for tracking — We do not use tracking cookies or third-party trackers.

StudyGenie stores the following data in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device and is not sent to our servers:

• • API Key — Your Gemini API key is stored locally in your browser. It is only used to make direct API calls to Google's Gemini API and is never transmitted to StudyGenie servers.
• • Usage Counter — We track your daily usage count locally to enforce the free tier limit (5 uses per day). This resets daily.
• • Theme Preference — Your light/dark mode preference is saved locally for a consistent experience.
• • Session Data — Text you paste may be temporarily stored in sessionStorage so you can use multiple tools on the same content. This is cleared when you close the browser tab.

You can clear all locally stored data at any time by clearing your browser's site data for StudyGenie.

When you use any of our AI tools (summarize, flashcards, quiz, explain, YouTube summary), the text you provide is sent directly from your browser to Google's Gemini API for processing. Here's what that means:

• → Your text is sent directly to Google's servers — it does not pass through StudyGenie's servers.
• → Google's privacy policy and terms of service apply to the data processed by the Gemini API.
• → We recommend not pasting sensitive, confidential, or personally identifiable information into any AI tool.

Your Gemini API key is stored exclusively in your browser's localStorage. It is never sent to StudyGenie's servers, logged, or shared with any third party. The key is used solely to authenticate requests directly with Google's Gemini API. You can remove your API key at any time by clearing your browser's localStorage.

We may use privacy-friendly, anonymized analytics to understand general usage patterns (e.g., which tools are most popular, page visit counts). This data is aggregated and cannot be used to identify individual users.

We do not currently run any advertising on StudyGenie. If we introduce ads in the future, we will update this policy and use non-intrusive, privacy-respecting ad networks.

StudyGenie is designed for students of all ages. Since we do not collect any personal information, there is no specific data handling concern regarding minors. However, younger students should use StudyGenie under parental or guardian supervision.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
